Description
Geranium himalayense is a charming and versatile perennial that adds a touch of elegance to your garden. This versatile geranium, native to the Himalayas, is known for its delicate, bright blue flowers that bloom from June to August. The flowers have a subtle whitish ring around the centre, adding an extra dimension to the blooms and providing a vivid contrast to the dark green, hand-shaped foliage.
At about 30 to 45 cm tall, Geranium himalayense is ideal for the foreground of borders, as a ground cover or in rock gardens. The plant has a neat, compact habit and remains attractive throughout the season. The rich, green leaves contrast nicely with the striking flowers and change to a warm, golden brown hue in autumn, adding extra colour to the garden.
To plant Geranium himalayense, it is recommended to soak the roots in water for 3-6 hours before placing them. Then plant the roots shallowly (1-2 cm deep) in well-drained soil in a sunny to lightly shaded location. This geranium is low-maintenance and copes well with different soil types, as long as they are not too wet. Regular pruning back after flowering promotes neat growth and a fresh appearance.
With its delicate flowers, attractive autumn colour and easy care, Geranium himalayense is an excellent choice for adding long-lasting beauty and charm to any garden.
